About the Club & History
In October of 1996 a group of Great Pyrenees enthusiasts began the Sierra Pacific Great Pyrenees Club, Inc. Many of the club members belonged to an established Great Pyrenees Club located in the Bay area and many were members of the Great Pyrenees Club of America (our National Club).
The Charter members of the Sierra Pacific Great Pyrenees Club, Inc. were primarily Great Pyrenees friends and fellow dog show exhibitors. The members were motivated by great ideas and a common interest in the desire to bring a new Club to life. This new Club would have social roots buried deep within the solid admiration and adoration of the Great Pyrenees breed, thus a new Club was born and the Sierra Pacific Great Pyrenees Club’s Creed was authored:
We the owners and breeders of the Great Pyrenees unite together to form Sierra Great Pyrenees Club as one family equal and unified in purpose and conviction dedicated to do nothing out of selfish ambition, but always to preserve, protect, promote, and edify the breed of the Great Pyrenees and the people who love them.
Our breed Club is licensed under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is also affiliated with the Great Pyrenees Club of America. Some of our members are also members of the Great Pyrenees Club of America as well as other clubs.
Our membership includes Great Pyrenees owners of all ages and backgrounds–pet owners, livestock guardian owners, conformation, obedience, carting and agility exhibitors and enthusiasts, breeders, and others who have maintained an interest in the breed over many years. Several members have a great deal of expertise in the history and development of our noble breed. At one time, we were all beginners with our first Pyrenees. Our club is here to help with information and assistance when such needs arise.
The Sierra Pacific Great Pyrenees Club is incorporation as a non-profit organization in the great State of California and is an IRS tax-exempt organization under code 501(c)3.
